The annual week-long professional development program will offer three six-day programs developed in partnership with Dow. BISD’s five teachers are part of only 32 teachers across the country selected to attend SSEATs this June and July. Representing BISD will be:

Kaitlin Eighme          Stephen F. Austin STEM Academy
Trichina Holland       Clute Intermediate School
Jennifer Janis          Clute Intermediate School
Megan Land            Grady Rasco Middle School

And for the second year in a row:
Danielle McDonald    Velasco Elementary School

The program, in its second year, is designed to enhance teachers’ skills related to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. These selected BISD’s teachers will participate in the 6-day program to learn directly from and work side-by-side with the Smithsonian Museums and Research Centers scientists out in their field of study. Each teacher will participate in one of three programs focused on specific STEM related themes:
  • Biodiversity
  • Energy's Innovations and Implications
  • Earth's History and Global Change

After the educators complete the program, they will continue to receive support from Dow’s STEM Ambassadors Program. Armed with new experiences, extensive resources and professional support, these five educators will work to support their fellow teachers in science education and inspire students with real life experiences in the exciting and engaging careers in STEM fields.
