TEA STARR Testing Update
This is the image for the news article titled TEA STARR Testing Update Yesterday, June 10, as a result of ongoing state testing issues with the testing vendor, Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath removed student consequences attached to the State Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) for 5th and 8th grade students for the 2015-2016 school year. He also canceled the June 21-22 5th and 8th grade retest STAAR assessment. Please see Commissioner Morath's letter below. As a result of his decision, summer school for students in grades 5 and 8 will end on Thursday, June 16. Promotion to the next grade will not be contingent on the state assessment. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and your family. The decision to suspend the June 21-22 STAAR testing for grades 5 and 8, and to suspend the Student Success Initiative (SSI) requirements for promotion and retention was made by TEA Commissioner Morath and not by local school districts. As a district, BISD remains committed to doing what is best for our students. Please address questions you may have to your child’s campus principal. BISD is always committed to providing a quality education and outstanding learning experiences for our students.
