Brazoswood™s Bartholome Earns National Merit Corporation Scholarship
Brazoswood High School Senior Travis Bartholome is among the first group of winners announced in the 61st annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The Olin Corporation Charitable Trust has named Bartholome as one of their National Merit Corporation Scholarship recipients.
“Travis is an incredibly well-rounded student, achieving success not only in the classroom, but also in UIL academic competitions as well as receiving numerous awards for his music abilities,” said Brazoswood Principal, Rita Pintavalle. “He has been a tremendous asset to many programs on our campus.”
Over 1.5 million juniors in some 22,000 high schools entered the 2016 National Merit Scholarship competition when they took the 2014 Preliminary sat/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). Through the National Merit Scholar process, about 7,500 finalists are selected to receive National Merit Scholarships. These finalists are judged to have the strongest combination of academic skills and achievements, extracurricular accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
Through National Merit Corporate-Sponsored Scholarship program, corporate sponsors, such as the Olin Corporation Charitable Trust, provide National Merit scholarships for finalists who are children of their employees, who are residents of communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the sponsor wishes to encourage.
Travis, the son of Timothy and Linda Bartholome of Lake Jackson, plans to attend the University of Houston and study Computer Engineering and Music in the fall.
