BISD Offers Annual Stipend for Lanier Middle School Distinguished Teachers
Here At Lanier...
In an effort to recruit outstanding teachers within or outside of Brazosport ISD to Lanier Middle School, BISD is paying a $10,000 dollar stipend to employees that meet a Distinguished teacher level. According to Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Jay Whitehead, “We know that the teacher in the classroom is what makes the difference in student success, and this type of action is completely necessary to ensure the campus has success.”
Distinguished teachers will be hired or retained in math, science, language arts, bilingual, intervention, and special education. These teachers will teach and lead grade and content level teacher teams. Distinguished teachers must have at least three years of classroom teaching experience, outstanding appraisals, excellent attendance and be highly recommended by their current supervisor. Additionally, Distinguished teacher applicants will go through an interview process at the campus and district levels before being selected as a Distinguished teacher. There will be up to 10 Distinguished teachers on this campus made up of a total of 31 teachers. These selected teachers will make a regular teacher salary plus an additional $10,000 stipend each year.
BISD is also paying a $2,000 stipend to recruit or retain accomplished level teachers in the core content areas of math, science, language arts, social studies, bilingual, special education, and intervention. Accomplished teachers must have favorable appraisals, a history of student growth, and go through an interview process to be eligible for the stipend.
Bilingual teachers are also eligible for a $4,000 stipend and special education teachers are eligible for an additional $1,500 stipend.
The purpose of the Distinguished and Accomplished Teacher stipends is to attract experienced and highly effective teachers who will give an added layer of expertise, support, and collaborative leadership to truly make a difference at Lanier Middle School. “We believe there is no greater impact on student learning than a highly effective classroom teacher,” said Superintendent Danny Massey.
