BISD Board Unanimously Approves Salary Increase for All Employees
The Brazosport ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a district-wide salary increase for all BISD employees Tuesday evening.
A general 3% of market raise was approved for all employees, with additional adjustments made for teachers with experience from 11 to 26 years to increase BISD’s teacher pay to be very competitive throughout the teacher pay structure. This increase brings BISD’s starting teacher salary to $51,400. In addition to the increases and adjustments, the district will now be paying stipends for High School Math and Science teachers at $3,000, for seventh and eighth grade Math and Science teachers at $1,500, and increasing Bilingual stipends to $4,000. BISD will continue to pay a $1,500 stipend to Special Education Teachers as well. Beyond that great news, BISD has increased the Fine Arts and Athletic stipends to the 75th percentile in the state as compared to 6A districts.
“There is no greater impact on student learning than a highly effective classroom teacher. We want the very best for our students,” said BISD Superintendent Danny Massey.
Jay Whitehead, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources adds that this long-term plan has always been part of our desire to first increase starting pay and then make market adjustments to experienced staff to remain competitive throughout the pay structure. “With this push to retain and recruit experienced teachers, a high school math teacher with 20 years of experience would make about $6,800 more than last year. Great teachers make a district great, so we want to retain and hire the best, and this structure allows that to happen.”
