For a third consecutive year, DOW and BISD have partnered to participate in the You Be the Chemist Challenge. The You Be the Chemist Challenge is a fun and interactive academic competition that engages students in fifth through eighth grades in learning about important chemistry concepts, scientific discoveries, and laboratory safety.
This year BISD had two students, Hans Aggarwal and Neha Krishnan from Lake Jackson Intermediate represent the district by attending the state You Be the Chemist event at the University of Houston campus on Saturday, April 16th. Forty students were awarded the opportunity to compete at the state challenge by advancing as the top four from their local challenges held across the state. At the state competition, Neha Krishnan was awarded 1st runner up after the tiebreaker question. Neha will serve as an alternate for the National Competition on June 20th in Philadelphia, PA.
Neha was happy that the winner was from our area and she is eager to compete for an opportunity to go to Nationals next year.
We would like to thank DOW for providing us with this educational opportunity and the Dow STEM ambassadors and coaches for supporting our students.
