BISD Boosts Bandwidth to Improve Future Learning
Just in time for STAAR testing, Brazosport ISD has increased bandwidth allowing students and teachers to access the Internet at much faster speeds.
BISD’s technology department recently doubled the district’s bandwidth, going from 500MB to 1GB of its external speed. This upgrade allows for much faster throughput and access to any application connecting to the world wide web.
With state required tests being administered online, along with many textbooks, software and digital media requiring Internet access in real time; and the implementation of the BISD 1:1 Initiative, providing a mobile device for every student in grades 5-12, this was a timely and needed upgrade. This increase in bandwidth should help minimize browsing delays or latency problems with online applications.
As so many learning opportunities now require access to the internet, BISD’s technology department is also working to provide additional failover measures to ensure that in the event connectivity is lost, learning can continue as usual.
“Our goal in technology is to make sure that all of our students have timely and reliable access to the tools they need to become successful and future ready,” said David Mendoza Director of Technology. “This upgrade brings us one step closer to that goal.”
