Top students from Brazosport High School attended the Business Professionals of America 2016 State Leadership Conference, in Corpus Christi, Texas, March 2-5, 2016.
Brazosport High School chapter members, Ta’Keiyah Backman, Michael Green, Tatyana Green, Rosa Meza, Crystal Nix, and RJ Perez joined over 2,700 other conference delegates from across the state to participate in state level business skill competitions, general sessions, and the state officer candidate elections.
“Students from the Texas Association’s Regional Leadership Conference have qualified to participate at the state level conference. The conference emphasizes business workforce education and training which members of the local chapter of Business Professionals of America at Brazosport High School have received,” said chapter advisor, Amanda Thiede, who teaches CTE courses. Rosa Meza is a National Qualifier by placing 3rd in Fundamental Word Processing Skills. She also placed 1st in Financial Math & Analysis Concepts. National Alternates include Michael Green in Advanced Spreadsheet Applications and Crystal Nix in Extemporaneous Speech. Tatyana Green and Ta’Keiyah Backman earned their Statesman Torch Awards by demonstrating their leadership and service abilities to their chapter and community. RJ Perez also competed in Digital Publishing after his 1st place finish at Regional competition in January.
Business Professionals of America is a national organization for middle school, high school, and college students preparing for careers in business and office occupations. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. Business Professionals of America acts as a cohesive agent in the nationwide networking of education and business and industry, and is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.
