Brazosport Independent School District Superintendent Danny Massey was recognized as the 2016 Education Community Honoree by the Brazosport League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council No. 4655, at their annual scholarship banquet. The Council holds the yearly program to raise scholarship funds for local students to further their education.

“Mr. Massey is a dedicated educator and a champion for all children,” stated Nelda Gonzalez, President of the LULAC Council, during the evening’s program. Gonzalez went on to share a bit about Massey’s years of service in public education and his generosity and dedication to the youth of our community.

“I am flattered to receive this recognition,” said Massey. “I share this award with all of the dedicated teachers and staff, throughout BISD, who are doing great things for kids each and every day.” He went on to thank the LULAC Council for their many years of support and financial assistance in helping BISD graduates achieve their goals.

Also honored during the ceremony was Dr. Lynda Villanueva, Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs at Brazosport College, as the 2016 Higher Education Community Honoree, and Jimmy Salinas, former Site Director for DM Petroleum Services Inc. at Bryan Mound, as the 2016 Community at Large Honoree.

Brazosport High School senior Fred Silbas was the keynote speaker for the evening. Silbas spoke about his experiences attending the LULAC Washington Leadership Seminar this past fall and expressed his gratitude to the LULAC Council 4655 for giving him the opportunity. 

This past year’s scholarship recipients were also acknowledged during the program. BISD’s LULAC Scholarship recipients for 2015:
