Construction for the second of five new elementary school buildings has not yet started, but Brazosport Independent School District welcomes recommendations for the naming of the Freeport campus, which is scheduled to open August 2018.
“This is a very exciting time for our community, and we want to encourage our students, staff and residents to contribute their ideas as part of this historic event,” said Superintendent Danny Massey.
The new campus will be built on the current Jane Long Elementary site and will serve all of the Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and first grade students in the Freeport feeder pattern.
BISD will provide an opportunity at each of the next four regularly scheduled board meetings to present naming recommendations for consideration. Board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at the BISD Administration Building, 302 West Brazoswood Drive in Clute, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
You can present to the Board at any of the next four meetings:
- September 20, 2016
- October 18, 2016
- November 15, 2016
- December 13, 2016
Individuals will have five minutes to present their name recommendation to the Board for the new school. If the recommendation is a person’s name, the district requests biography and accomplishments be shared during this time. According to Board Policy, if a name recommendation is after a person, the Board will take into consideration the person’s accomplishments, length of service to BISD, community support, and campus support of the name.
The Board of Trustees will consider all recommendations and take action to name the new campus after a public hearing at the January 17, 2017 regularly scheduled board meeting. If you have questions about BISD’s board meetings or the naming process, please contact Leta Faulk at 730-7000 ext. 10170.
