July 2016 marked the first Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math (STEAM) Summer Maker Camp held at Brazosport High School. The free summer camp was held July 11-15 for students ages 7-17 for the purpose of introducing young innovators to the “Maker Movement”. Students were allowed to explore leading-edge, emerging technology hardware and software and were provided a chance to bring their creations to life using the art studio’s: 3D printers, 3D pens, 3D VR camera, and Virtual Reality viewers software.
During the Maker Camp some students went on virtual field trips, and were able to use the virtual reality headsets to go on Google expeditions. Some of the other summer project highlights fit into the themes of “Things That Go”, “Mechanical Wonders”, “Way-Out Sound”, and “Sci-Fi.” .
The camp was made possible by BISD staff, students, and volunteers that donated their time for this great week of “future-ready” learning. Many thanks go to Rhonda Church,AP Studio Art, Art 1-4 Drawing, and Electronic Media teacher, and her crew.
