Brazosport Independent School District will be receiving six new school buses equipped with air conditioning and on board security cameras, replacing the district’s oldest buses.
The district applied for and received another grant with the Houston-Galveston Area Council Clean Vehicles Program.
“We continue to look for ways to do our part to reduce the environmental footprint in our community, like establishing departmental practices such as limiting idle times,” said John Craig, BISD Director of Transportation. “Replacing our oldest buses with new, cleaner running models is definitely a move in the right direction.”
Upon the completion of the grant contract agreement the district will be receiving $271,000 to help offset some of the cost for the purchase. The remaining amount will be covered with bond dollars approved in the last school bond. These will be the first full size buses the district has purchased that will be equipped with air conditioning and will help in making a positive impact on the services for the district’s students.
