When Smith’s husband passed away she decided to become – in her own words – “A professional volunteer and an unpaid grant writer for non-profits.” While volunteering with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Smith spearheaded the group to respectfully return the Rosenwald School in West Columbia from the hay barn it had become to the historical monument and children’s museum that it is today. As a recipient of the City of West Columbia’s Citizen of the Year Award and a former nominee for Citizen of the Year in Brazoria County, Naomi Antill Smith can still be found serving in one of the many volunteer organizations in the county.
