This week Polk and Griffith Elementary schools celebrated the opening of their new gymnasiums. Students of each campus joined school officials, the BISD Board, invited guests and VLK Architects representatives for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
VLK was awarded these projects as part of the 2014 BISD Bond in July of 2015. The bond work for each school included classroom additions, gymnasium buildings, the addition of drop-off/pick-up lanes, and additional parking. Each gymnasium is an independent, pre-engineered metal building made up of approximately 6,000 square feet of brick wainscoting, has dedicated restrooms and a canopy that ties into the existing building.
“Attending the ribbon cutting was really rewarding because you get to see the students and administrators enjoy the spaces we’ve created for them,” said VLK Construction Administrator Mike Sadler. “Students at Polk and Griffith now have safe, secure, spaces to play. VLK is so grateful for the opportunity to have a hand in this experience.”
