This is the image for the news article titled BISD Names School Counselors of the YearCounselors Mandy Davis and Traci Wade have been named Brazosport ISD’s Counselors of the Year.

Brazosport ISD has a total of 40 outstanding counselors across the district. This year, we had the opportunity to give special recognition to an elementary counselor and a secondary counselor as Counselors of the Year. School counselors assist students at all levels. As vital members of the school leadership team, school counselors create a school culture of success for all. Mrs. Davis and Ms. Wade demonstrate attributes and qualities of supporting students in the areas of career, personal/social and academic development, and have the highest levels of professional and personal ethical standards.

Mandy Davis, Counselor at Bess Brannen Elementary
Mandy Davis, counselor at Bess Brannen Elementary School, serves on the district lead counseling team and crisis response team. She has been in education for 20 years. During her educational career, she has worked with bilingual and special education students as well as held administrative roles prior to entering school counseling. This is her 4th year being a school counselor. There are many things that Mrs. Davis loves about being a school counselor, but her favorite thing is creating a space for her students to love to visit and where they feel comfortable learning and growing. As a young adult, she learned to speak Spanish fluently and wishes all her students would realize that once you make your mind up to accomplish a goal, no one can stop you.

Traci Wade, Counselor at Brazoswood High School
Traci Wade, counselor at Brazoswood High School, is currently in her 23rd year in education with 14 of those years being in BISD. She has worked with all age levels throughout the span of her career. Sha has been an elementary, middle, and junior high teacher followed by becoming a high school counselor. Her favorite thing about being a school counselor is the fulfillment in knowing when she has helped a student work through personal obstacles to graduate high school and/or attend post-secondary school. She would like for all of her students to realize that the quality of one's life does not have to be determined by what happens to them but instead by how one reacts to it.
