Five Lady Bucs and one Lady Exporter powerlifters are on their way to the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) State Championships!
After placing in the top two or finishing with a qualifying total in the Class 6A Region 4-Division 1 powerlifting meet, Brazoswood seniors Haley Hughes and Taryn McDougal are returning to the state meet. They will be joined by Macie Riley, Ashlyn Ybarra, and Damaris Medrano. The Lady Bucs team finished fourth with 18 points.
Brazosport High Lady Exporter lifters had 10 powerlifters compete at the Class 4A Region 4 Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Meet. Sophomore Aubrey Martinez placed 3rd overall but won in the 114 pound weight class and also advanced to the state competition.
Brazoswood Coach Trey Heckendorn said, “All of these girls have been working since November to get to this point, a few of them haven’t stopped since last year and that’s a testament to their character. They’ve all been working towards this goal of qualifying for state and now it’s time to set a new goal for a new opportunity.”
The THSWPA State Championships will be on March 15 (Brazoswood) and March 17 (Brazosport) at the Comerica Center in Frisco. Congratulations and best wishes at state students and coaches TJ Heidt and Trey Heckendorn!
