The video crew documented Lucy's work as a trained police dog for BISD and the impact she has on the school community. The filming began at Brazoswood High School, where Vet Tech students bathed Lucy and got her ready for the day's work. The students were interviewed while they groomed Lucy, sharing their thoughts on the importance of police dogs in school safety.

Next, the crew visited T.W. Ogg Elementary School, where fourth-grade students shared how safe they felt with Lucy on the job. The students expressed that Lucy's presence brought comfort and added security to their school.

The filming continued at Brazosport High School, where two school leaders and Principal Virgil were interviewed. They all commended Lucy and her handler, Officer John Burmeier, for their outstanding work in providing added security and safety to the campus.

Lucy was donated by K9s4COPs through its K9s4KIDs initiative, a program that offers an alternative, kinder and gentler approach to keeping our school children safe. K9s4COPs plans to put together a commercial advertising the need and purpose of school districts getting a service dog like Lucy for their schools. The video aims to promote the role of trained police dogs in school safety and encourage more schools to adopt this effective method.

"We are thrilled to have Officer Lucy featured in K9s4COPs & K9s4KIDs' campaign for school safety," said Officer John Burmeir, Lucy’s handler. "Lucy is an outstanding example of how trained police dogs can enhance safety and security in schools. We hope that this video will encourage more schools to consider adding a police dog to their safety measures."

BISD is proud to have Lucy as part of its police force and looks forward to her continued work in ensuring the safety of its students and staff.

K9s4COPs has given 300 K9s since 2011. Its K9s4KIDs initiative has given 34 school K9s to 19 school districts and universities and helps keep over 2.5 million students safe each school year. For more information on K9s4COPs and K9s4KIDs go to K9s4COPs.org.
