These educators have exhibited outstanding commitment to their students and colleagues, making a profound impact within our educational community.

Elementary Spotlight Educator: Julia Manzanares
Julia Manzanares, a 4th-grade Bilingual ELAR (English Language Arts and Reading) teacher at Ogg Elementary, has been honored as the October Elementary Spotlight Educator recipient. Julia's commitment to excellence is evident in her classroom, which has become a model for effective teaching district-wide. In addition to her exceptional classroom achievements, Julia has demonstrated leadership by accepting the role of Grade Level Lead for 4th grade. She also has been instrumental in leading professional development sessions that have enhanced curriculum and instruction and promoted PBIS (CHAMPS) at her campus.

Mrs. Baca, a colleague, recalled Julia's profound words, "It's not work because I love what I do," exemplifying her unwavering passion for education. Mrs. Rodriguez and Mrs. Pierson also praise Julia for her positivity and her role as the grade-level lead and team motivator.

Secondary Spotlight Educator: Yami Sherrill
Yami Sherrill, an 8th-grade Social Studies Teacher and Content Specialist at Lake Jackson Intermediate School, has been selected as the October Secondary Spotlight Educator recipient. Yami's leadership extends far beyond the classroom, characterized by her selflessness and ever-present smile. She consistently offers support to her fellow teachers, fostering a collaborative and positive atmosphere on campus. Yami's dedication to crafting creative and engaging lessons has invigorated the Social Studies Department, while her guidance in the development of Student Leaders in Student Council has contributed to a vibrant school culture at LJI.

A colleague described their first year working with Mrs. Sherrill during the fall of 2020 and how her strong leadership, willingness to learn, and dedication to collaboration were unwavering even in the face of teaching during a pandemic. Yami's active participation in the social studies curriculum advisory council and the social studies professional development community underscores her deep commitment to her subject matter.
