On August 15, 2018 Brazosport ISD celebrated the opening of its newest campus, Freeport Elementary School. This new campus serves as a replacement for the previous Long and Fleming Elementary Schools that served this portion of the district. Freeport Elementary is a 90,438 sf campus, serving up to 750 students in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grades.

This innovative campus features a secure entry vestibule and three main classroom wings with shared spaces for collaborative learning, all coming together at a central media center. A teaching kiva allows for small group instruction and connection to the main corridor collaborative space.

The classroom pods, resource rooms, and administration suite share a direct adjacency to the media center. This space provides areas for research, gathering, and teaching with a direct connection to the STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, English, Arts, Math) lab and a maker space for student projects. Collaborative spaces are also located in each classroom wing with windows and views to the exterior. The collaboration spaces will also have access to secure outdoor learning stations directly outside of each. Additional play areas can be accessed from the gym and cafeteria to allow for safe and secure outdoor areas for the students.

“Our new Freeport Elementary School is amazing. Every space is for early childhood learning,” said Brazoport ISD Superintendent, Danny Massey. “It’s not often you get to line a school with palm trees! Great job VLK Architects.”
