With recent events happening across the nation, and some too close to home, BISD has increased security measures across our district. We have added 10 police officers which has doubled the size of our BISD Police Department. We have expanded other safety initiatives by adding security specialists to monitor hallways, perimeter areas and security cameras. We have developed threat assessment teams of highly trained professionals to identify, evaluate, classify and address threats or potential threats to student safety. In this changing world, safety and security upgrades are not only important when designing new facilities but necessary at ALL campuses throughout BISD. Safety and security needs ranked high priority on the list of facility and capital needs presented to our Long Range Facilities, Bond Planning Committee.

The following safety and security measures are included in the proposed 2019 bond projects:

• Controlled areas of entry
• District wide upgrades to security cameras and monitoring systems
• Updates and upgrades to security technology across all campuses
• Door activity monitoring and alert system
• Police Department vehicles and equipment
• Emergency Kits, Go Bags, and Shelter Kits for all classrooms, offices, and buses
• Emergency lockdown systems and lockdown shades for classrooms with interior windows

We will continue to ensure our students have environments that are safe and conducive for learning in our schools. We will be equipped, prepared and ready to respond in the event of any security matter.
