Four Brazoswood High School student artists, under the guidance of Emily Espeche and Connilee Lusk, brought home state medals for their outstanding works. All four students earned the state’s Superior Rating for their works of art.

The journey to State begins in February, when their artwork is entered at the Regional VASE competition. Students who receive a rating of IV at the regional level qualify to participate in a juried area event. State qualifying artworks then move on to the State Event, which was held on April 27, 2024 in San Marcos, Tx. At the state event, the artworks are juried again, and those who earn superior ratings are given the all-state designation.

For the VASE competition, students create artworks and write about their creative processes and understanding of visual art. They then articulate information about their artwork during an interview with a VASE juror, who evaluates their work using a standards-based rubric.

We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the following four All-State Artists and commend them for their extraordinary accomplishments.

  • Emily Greer, 12th - Year 2037
  • Kendra Lucero, 12th - Can’t Reach For Help
  • Amiah Williams, 12th - The Perpetual Bloodline
  • Ivy Richards, 10th - Death’s Head
