James Link is a Brazoswood senior who stands out for his commitment to academic, extracurricular, and community endeavors. Although he didn't begin his educational path in Texas, James embraced every opportunity that came his way after joining BISD in the third grade.

In the sixth grade, James’ science class at Rasco Middle School participated in the Student Spaceflight Experiment Program (SSEP). His project team was selected to have their science experiment performed at the International Space Station, and James was able to see a SpaceX rocket launch with his experiment onboard as a special guest at Cape Canaveral. This incredible experience sparked an interest in aerospace engineering. At Brazoswood, James was able to develop this passion by participating in the 4-year Systems Go rocketry program, serving as lead propulsion engineer his senior year. He was able to gain experience not only in designing and building rockets, but also in teamwork, presentation skills, and problem solving.

Outside of class, James was a 4-year member of the Buc Band, where he served on the drumline for three years. He was able to hone his leadership skills during his senior year as drumline captain. He also achieved recognition by being selected for the 9th grade region band and all-district band his junior year. He was also recognized as a TMEA Music Scholar.

In the community, James achieved the honor of Eagle Scout during his sophomore year. For his Eagle Project, James executed a project to build a “living classroom” for Chapelwood pre-school. The large, raised bed garden now serves as a place for preschoolers to learn about how things grow in a hands-on and meaningful way.

James will continue his studies next year as an Aerospace Engineering major at the University of Alabama. Congratulations, James, on your outstanding achievements!
