BISD continues to set the standard in all areas and May 17, 2024 was another example of that mission becoming a reality. For the first time, the CTE department held a Health Science Signing Day in the Brazoswood Koch Casey Auditorium and recognized nine students who will be working in the health field starting as early as this summer.
On April 12, BISD held interviews for health science students interested in part-time, full-time or summer internship opportunities with local health care providers. Eighty-Four interviews were conducted with 32 students and 10 participating providers. This opportunity was created by the CTE Advisory Committee, who felt that BISD health science students should be the next target group for a signing day, since it is our second largest program after manufacturing. Students applied in the areas of Emergency Medical Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, Dental Assistant, Pharmacy Technician and more.
“It is opportunities such as these that demonstrate our students are future ready and we are so grateful for these healthcare professionals who are committed to providing our students with these experiences that will catapult them into their future” said BISD Executive Director, Jessie Jennings.
This event would not be possible without the efforts of the CTE Advisory Committee and the Health Science Signing Day Subcommittee comprised of BISD Workforce Development Coordinator, Inga Gibbons, BISD Alternative Funding Director, Aaron Ennis, BISD Executive Director, Jessie Jennings, UTMB’s Olivia Garner, Dow’s Jeff Vangrifft, Theresa Cravey with ABC/MSTI, Top Coat’s Jason Hayes, and Apache’s Lisa West.
