This generous funding will be used to enhance the electrical trades education and training within the district. Specifically, the grant will be utilized to purchase electrical boards for incorporation into the Ag Mechanics curriculum, which is part of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum in Ag Fabrication and Structures.

The integration of these electrical boards will provide students with hands-on learning experiences that are crucial for understanding the fundamentals of electrical trades. Students who develop a deeper interest in this field can pursue dual credit pathways available at Brazosport College (BC) or, upon graduation, obtain their Associate degree in Industrial Electricity or HVAC.

“This grant will enable BISDs Career & Technical Education program to grow in the electrical trades space,” said Jessie Jennings, Executive Director of CTE and Alternative Resources. “This will provide additional resources to introduce students to the workforce skills in the electrical industry and better prepare them to meet the workforce needs within our community.”

Alicia Dixon, Director of Community Relations at CenterPoint Energy added, “The CTE programs align well with the recruitment pipelines and pathways initiative here at CenterPoint Energy. We like to encourage young people who are interested in the utility industry and learning the necessary skills to look at CNP opportunities as a reliable and consistent career path.”
