Brazosport ISD is proud to announce that both Brazoswood and Brazosport High Schools have been named a “Project ADAM® Heart-Safe School.” Project Adam® (Automated Defibrillators in Adam’s Memory) is a program of Texas Children’s Hospital that implements a comprehensive plan to prevent sudden cardiac death. A banner was presented to both high schools by a representative from Texas Children's Hospital. This national recognition underscores the commitment of both high schools and the district to maintain a safe and prepared environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Project ADAM® began at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in 1999 after a series of sudden cardiac deaths among high school athletes in southeastern Wisconsin, including 17 year old Adam Lemel. To receive the Project ADAM® designation, all staff must be trained annually to recognize a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA); Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) must be placed throughout each campus for a quick response time and a Cardiac Response Team must be established at each campus. Additionally, cardiac response drills are conducted in collaboration with local EMS partners, Freeport and Clute EMS, to ensure seamless coordination in emergency situations.

“We are thrilled to be able to receive the Project Adam® recognition,” said Molly James, Coordinator of BISD Health Services. "BISD nurses do a wonderful job making sure our students and employees are taken care of and ensuring we have the finest emergency practices available for schools."

Congratulations to BISD Health Services and everyone who contributed to this remarkable accomplishment. Together, we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our school community.
